Language and Culture

AISHK’s language programmes take a dynamic and inventive approach to language learning, equipping our students with the skills and cultural literacy to navigate and lead in a global community.

Chinese

Chinese (Mandarin) is compulsory for all students from Reception to Year 6, and becomes an elective subject from Years 7 to 12.

Primary students take Chinese class every day and enjoy a number of additional support programs available to enhance their language skills, including the Year 1 and Year 2 Reading Enrichment Program, Talking Chinese Program and the Chinese Homework Club. In Year 6, an annual, one-week cultural camp to Beijing is held which gives students the opportunity to utilise their language skills and gain a further appreciation and understanding of Chinese culture.

French

French is offered as an elective subject choice in Years 7-12, with beginners courses either starting in Year 7 or Year 11.

The French programme at AISHK ensures students gain a well-rounded appreciation of French language, culture and geography through local and overseas immersion programmes and celebrations. Secondary students have the option of choosing Paris as their destination during Activity Week in Term 1, for cultural and language immersion.

AISHK students regularly participate in French speaking competitions both in Hong Kong and overseas.
